No one knows the Manawatu quite like we do. We’ve been around since the 1960s and in that time, we’ve earned our stripes by creating a range of stunning architecture in both the commercial and residential space.

We believe our work speaks for itself. Look at any one of our projects and you’ll see the style, creativity, quality, and commitment to detail.

Energy efficiency and sustainability is a complicated issue facing the sector and what can seem like minor choices in the design and construction can have large consequences in the life cycle of a structure and its overall efficiency. We understand this and would love to partner with you on this journey.

I conceive history as a tapestry that is still on the loom. All the portions that have been woven are our history, the edge of the weaving is NOW and the fibers still yet to be woven are our future. I am using a type of theoretic thought experiment to try to work out what the built environment would feel like by theoretically re-weaving history to follow paths long discarded by Western thought.

I’m striving to understand what this type of society would have done once (if) it grew to the point where it was an endemic species, meaning the very existence of the society is having a direct negative consequential effect on the bioregion or biosphere.

Once that society has recognized their impact what changes would they make or have made?

This is a long term study and unlikely to ever come to an end. BUT, by using this lens to peer into an alternative rewoven historical past, I can infer some things to the Now of today’s destructive, scarcity based society to try to pull from that vision as much as I can into reality today.

Using this methodology, I have come to three realizations that I am pursuing in current projects:
  1. De-Commodification of land. I believe in a regenerative society, one could not own the land any more than a sparrow or tree owns the land. So in my projects, I am concentrating on groups with alternative ownership models as a start.
  2. In a Regenerative society based on Abundance the concept of Enough is critical. “Everyone gets a nest, but not a nest egg”. To that end i am looking at alternative economic models with special interest in Wellness Accounting as well as groups that have a commitment to voluntary redistribution of wealth and a commitment to wholeness of the individual, group and planet as a foundation for the group’s relationship with the land.
  3. De-Commodification of Intellectual Property. I believe in a regenerative society, intellectual property would be held in common This is a longer discussion, but theoretically with common purpose and rapid innovation is possible,
I am still very much in the exploratory phase, trying to find groups here that are aligned with my kaupapa (values).

OMEGA Windows and Doors is proudly owned by McKechnie Aluminium Solutions Limited, who have over 50 years of experience in extruding aluminium. This combined with contemporary European design means you get a product that not only looks good but can withstand the demanding weather conditions of New Zealand.

The OMEGA Thermal Series was benchmarked and showed a 36% improved (“u” value) thermal performance compared to one of its standard competitors. The innovative OMEGA Thermal Series is also designed to significantly lessen the Bi-Metallic effect which occurs in most joinery products.

OMEGA and McKechnie Aluminium are the only aluminium extrusion business in New Zealand to operate a remelt facility for recycling aluminium retaining all the aluminium’s properties. Third-party environmentally certified with a high recycled content and therefore low carbon footprint.

CEMARS® Product Certification – Sustainably Leading the Industry

Achieving a carbon footprint of 1.21kg of CO2e per Kg of Aluminium on a Scope 1 and 2* basis which is 90% better than the global average (11.5kg^ CO2e per kg of aluminium) CEMARS® third-party certified.  OMEGA by McKechnie® is the first NZ Aluminium joinery manufacturer to achieve third-party CEMARS® product certification by Enviro-Mark Solutions Ltd.
