Event details

For July’s Passive House Institute New Zealand Canterbury Chapter, Passive House event, we’re going to look at how to get from standard group home builder housing to Passive House in five simple steps.

Building on the Ben Frost event last month, we’ll provide practical outcomes that show the power of the variants tab in PHPP.

We have two projects to look at
1. A new build in Rangoria, designed by a Christchurch mass market home building company.
2. The staged renovation of three existing townhouses, that has been underway since 2021.

Most new houses built today are built to minimum building code standards. This is by definition, the worst house that can legally be built.

Passive House is an international best practice standard for building energy efficient homes. This is arguably the best house that can legally be built.

How do we bridge the air barrier between the two?
What upgrades are required?
What is the price of these upgrades?
What is the return on investment of each of these upgrades?
What is the cost of not building better?
Is there a sweet spot?

What price should we place on comfort?

Come along to Two Thumb Brewing Co. Manchester Street and find out.
