The brief for this project was to design a modest, traditional looking passive house cottage for a retiring King’s Council. Following traditional building design this brief suggested a compact building form and the use of traditional timber shutters for sun control.
The floor plan for this house is almost a square. The lower level contains kitchen, living, dining as well as a bedroom/office guest bathroom and walk-in pantry. The upper level contains two generous bedrooms with raking ceilings and dedicated bathrooms.
The house is timber framed on an insulated concrete floor slab.
WD Homes achieved achieved a blower door test result of 0.1 ACH which is the best blower door result ever recorded in NZ.
