Creating what matters for future generations is an overarching philosophy that underpins our core values and how we approach our architectural commissions as we seek to question today, imagine tomorrow, create for the future.

We are a highly motivated and connected team of expert designers, from unique and diverse backgrounds, committed to listen, engage, and collaborate with our clients to deliver project outcomes that create highly effective and enriched spatial environments for individuals, and communities, both now and far into the future.

We have nearly 150 years of history in architecture practice, our acquired knowledge and skills are coupled with continual research and innovation applied to develop efficient, resilient, sustainable solutions benefiting from years of review and wide project experience across New Zealand. Our extensive historical experience, unique understanding of our land and climates coupled with our long collaboration with local communities, councils and contractors allow us to uniquely tailor our design solutions in unison with our connected local and global WSP engineering design specialists.

Our designers are committed to sustainability and understand that taking a sustainable approach means ensuring that any decisions and actions made today, do not negatively compromise future generations and the world we live in. As part of this commitment, a large number of our team are qualified assessors for green building rating tools / certification and experts in high-performance building standards such as Passive House.

I conceive history as a tapestry that is still on the loom. All the portions that have been woven are our history, the edge of the weaving is NOW and the fibers still yet to be woven are our future. I am using a type of theoretic thought experiment to try to work out what the built environment would feel like by theoretically re-weaving history to follow paths long discarded by Western thought.

I’m striving to understand what this type of society would have done once (if) it grew to the point where it was an endemic species, meaning the very existence of the society is having a direct negative consequential effect on the bioregion or biosphere.

Once that society has recognized their impact what changes would they make or have made?

This is a long term study and unlikely to ever come to an end. BUT, by using this lens to peer into an alternative rewoven historical past, I can infer some things to the Now of today’s destructive, scarcity based society to try to pull from that vision as much as I can into reality today.

Using this methodology, I have come to three realizations that I am pursuing in current projects:
  1. De-Commodification of land. I believe in a regenerative society, one could not own the land any more than a sparrow or tree owns the land. So in my projects, I am concentrating on groups with alternative ownership models as a start.
  2. In a Regenerative society based on Abundance the concept of Enough is critical. “Everyone gets a nest, but not a nest egg”. To that end i am looking at alternative economic models with special interest in Wellness Accounting as well as groups that have a commitment to voluntary redistribution of wealth and a commitment to wholeness of the individual, group and planet as a foundation for the group’s relationship with the land.
  3. De-Commodification of Intellectual Property. I believe in a regenerative society, intellectual property would be held in common This is a longer discussion, but theoretically with common purpose and rapid innovation is possible,
I am still very much in the exploratory phase, trying to find groups here that are aligned with my kaupapa (values).

Inspired by Europe’s top performing building methods, we developed our very own innovative New Zealand designed prefabricated system.

Optimised for our unique geographic, climatic and seismic conditions, it is locally manufactured from a mix of NZ-made and recycled materials, then combined with some of the world’s best European building products such as Megrame Windows to make your new home stronger, safer, healthier and more environmentally sustainable than other alternatives.
