Hot Water Heat Pumps; Why, What, How, Who

Are you interested in energy efficient hot water, but don’t know where to start?

We all want to live in comfortable homes and a hot shower, and a warm bath is one of the joys of life.

However, with so many different Hot Water Heat Pumps (HWHP) on the market and so many claims, it’s a confusing choice out there for specifiers, let alone buyers.

The Canterbury Chapter of the Passive House Institute of New Zealand (PHINZ) in association with Electrify Christchurch will be hosting a hot water heat pump seminar at 16:00 on Wednesday 22nd July 2026 at The Welder, 20 Welles Street.

The purpose of this event is to help the everyone attending to understand these energy efficient machines better, so they can make more informed choices now and in the future.

The format will be:

1. Introductions by Damien McGill on behalf of PHINZ and Michael Anderson on behalf of Electrify Christchurch.

2. Bhawesh Singh explaining in simple terms what HWHPs are, how they work and why they are so efficient, including discussing different construction and refrigerant options along with their benefits.

3. Daniel Barber from EECA providing an update on their HWHP Research.

4. Four Suppliers introducing their businesses and discussing their particular HWHP products

· Hanshu Li – Warmth NZ

· Chris Mardon – Ecobulb

· Blair Reed – Stiebel Eltron

· Samantha Russell – Fisher & Paykel

5. Q&A

6. Drinks and discussions with suppliers.

This will be approximately a two-hour event and there will be at least one HWHP there on display for everyone to get up close and personal with.
