Presenters:

Ben Eyers, Hiberna Ltd

Ben has been working on and developing low-energy/local material building techniques since 2008, specialising in straw bale construction and natural plasters. His expertise has taken him around the world, from studying Tadelakt in Morocco to building a lime kiln in The Gambia and working on lime plastering projects in England and Spain. In NZ he has worked on several Passive House projects and has developed a prefabricated straw insulated wall system, designed specifically for NZ conditions, in collaboration with the other speakers today.

Paul Jaquin, eZED Ltd

Paul is a structural and geotechnical engineer based in Queenstown. He is a director of eZED and works on sustainable buildings, specifically with natural materials such as straw, hemp and rammed earth. Previously he has worked in the UK, Sweden, and around Northland and the East Cape of NZ on buildings, and also large scale infrastructure projects. He has a PhD in historic earthen construction, where he used complex soil mechanics principles to understand the behaviour of 1000 year old rammed earth buildings in Spain and Indian. Most recently he is working on suspension bridges and other fun structures for local cycle trails.
