The Ridge is a new Passivhaus Plus certified family home at 402m above sea level in the Wellington hills. It is positioned below the ridge line to shelter from the southerly wind, while enjoying extensive views to the north and west. The site is subject to extremely high wind and required special engineering design for the building structure and the windows. The Aliplast thermally broken triple glazed windows supplied by Ecowindows have additional external mullion profiles to provide the necessary wind bracing.

The thermal envelope is constructed with Formance SIPS with graphite EPS, clad externally with render finished AAC panels, which ensures it is always warm and quiet inside, no matter what the weather is like outside.

The project is off-grid ,due to the remote location, with wind and solar PV suppling renewable electricity to meet all the energy needs. Rainwater is harvested and stored to meet all the water needs.
